WINDOW SCENES
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
Q - Can these
scenes be used in conjunction with my
Scapewel Window Well (or other tiered
egress window well system)?
A - No. These scenes are only
designed to be used with window wells that have
straight vertical sides, and only behind the
egress ladder (if your well has one).
Q - I have an window well with a
fixed (molded in place) ladder. Can I still
use one of your scenes?
A - Probably not. Never attempt to
cover up the ladder because doing so would violate
building code and eliminate the ability to escape
up and out of the window well in the event of
emergency. Any trimming or modifications of
this product are done at the customer's own
risk. Do not install these scenes in
such a way as to jeopardize the egress ability of
your window well! Again, these scenes are only designed to be used with window wells
that have straight vertical sides and no egress
ladder.
Q - What type of
material are the scenes made from?
A - They are made of a
durable and flexible polystyrene material, roughly
the thickness of a sheet of posterboard.
Q - How do these scenes hold up
against the elements?
A - They are UV resistant,
and withstand heat, cold weather, rain and
snow. We do not have long range data, but we
can tell you that customers who have had Window
Well Scenes installed for the past three to five
years still report that their Window Well Scenes
look as good as they did when they were
installed. You can expect to receive many
years of beauty from your Window Well Scene.
Q - How are the pictures put on the
liner? How good is the quality of the
image?
A - The images are applied using a screen printing process. We
think the image quality is remarkable, with rich,
vibrant colors and excellent clarity and
sharpness.
Q - How big are the scenes?
A - They measure 60" tall by 100"
wide. They can be easily trimmed and cut to
size to fit your window well.
Q - How do the scenes
install?
A - You can see our full installation
instruction sheet here. Basically you
will need to trim the product to proper
size, install the hook and loop fastening
system and roll your scene into
place.
Q - Is this product difficult to
cut?
A - No. A straight edge and a sharp
utility knife are recommended (hint: protect the
area behind the cut!), but a decent pair of
scissors might work, as well. If using
scissors, you might want to test the scissors'
ability to cut on a soon-to-be-discarded edge of
the scene. Some scissors (especially dull
ones) may cause cracking along the cut edge.
Q - As I trim the scene to fit
my window well, do you have any suggestions how to
achieve a good result?
A - Measure carefully! Then measure a
few more times before cutting. Also, if you
are trimming your scene down in size,
you have some control over which part of the scene
is kept, and which part will be discarded.
Try to plan so that your favorite elements of the
scene are kept intact. And finally, when
preparing to trim your scene,
remember: you can always trim more off but you can
never add more back! The radius of the curve
of your window well can be difficult to measure so
give yourself room for error when measuring and
trimming!
Q - You show 5 scenes available for
purchase. Are there any additional scenes
available?
A - No, at least not at this time. We
understand that there are plans to add new and
different scenes at some point in the future, but
at present, we offer the five beautiful scenes
shown on our web
page.
Q - My window well is made of
concrete. Will the hook & loop
attachment system for the scenes
work on concrete?
A - Yes. Just make sure that the
concrete is clean and dry when installing the
hook/loop strip. Any moisture, dust, grease
or dirt will affect the adhesion of the
strips. Clean the area thoroughly and let it
dry completely before installing the strip.
Rubbing alcohol often makes a good cleaning
solvent.
Q - I am concerned that there will be a gap
between the scene and my window
well. What can I do?
A - We know of a way to give a finished
appearance to the top of your scene. We have heard feedback from customers
who have purchased black vinyl tubing (such as the
black water low-pressure water garden tubing found
at most home centers). Carefully slit
the tubing lengthways. Then, simply slip the
slit tubing over the top of the scene. This step is certainly not required
for installation, but may be an option to some
customers. Remember that you will probably
not be able to see the top of the well from inside
the room anyway.
Q - How are the scenes shipped to
me?
A - In a large cardboard tube approximately
60" tall and 4" diameter. Most
deliveries on this product are made using UPS. Product ships directly from the
manufacturer in Colorado, usually within 24 hours.
Q - Are the scenes covered by a
warranty?
A - Yes. The warranty can be found at
the bottom of our installation
instructions page. In short, the product
carries a one-year warranty against defects in
manufacturing and/or workmanship, including fading
of the original image. If you are concerned
about the warranty, we invite you to read the full
text that can be found on the page indicated
above.
Q - Oops! I cut my scene
too short. How can I return it?
A - Sorry, but you can't. We can not
accept any scenes for return once they
have been cut or rendered unsaleable. So
please measure carefully!
Q - When I look out of my basement window I
feel like I am on vacation. What shall I do?
A - Relax and simply enjoy the beauty!
